Dr. Doug Payne
Veterinarian
Dr. Doug is a 2001 graduate of the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. From a very early age, Dr. Doug has always been drawn to animals. His very first patient was a bird with a broken wing when he was 8 yrs old. Dr. Doug’s passion for pets was furthered by his time in the Boy Scouts of America where he became an Eagle Scout and served as a camp counselor teaching classes about animals and nature. After graduating high school, Dr. Doug went to college on a music scholarship but never lost his desire to help animals. While in under-grad, he earned a BS degree in animal and dairy sciences and performed master’s research focused on pig reproduction issues. Upon graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Doug moved to the Pocono Mountains where he worked as an associate doctor in a progressive, 8-doctor small animal practice. Over his 20+ year career, Dr. Doug has worked in emergency and small animal practices in the private and corporate sectors. For the past 5 years he has served as an adjunct professor in the Lehigh Carbon County/Northampton County Community College Veterinary technician program where he teaches Radiology, Surgical Nursing and Anesthesia.
Dr. Doug strives to nurture the human-animal bond by providing transparent and compassionate care and advice for owners, allowing them to be able to make informed decisions regarding the health and wellbeing of their pets. Dr. Doug loves mentorship and teaching and has had the privilege of speaking at numerous continuing education events for technicians. His professional interests include dentistry, anesthesia, and dermatology. When not pulling out an infected tooth, or figuring out why someone’s fur baby smells like dirty socks, Dr. Doug enjoys spending time in the outdoors, kayaking, and going to concerts with his wife and 2 teenagers.
